Extending the Prayer Area Project

The Gungahlin Mosque is growing alongside its community, and to accommodate the increasing number of worshippers, we are embarking on an exciting project to extend the prayer area. This expansion will provide additional space for worshippers, ensuring that everyone has a comfortable and peaceful environment for prayer, especially during busy times such as Jumu'ah and Eid prayers.

Background

As our mosque continues to welcome more worshippers, we have identified the need for additional prayer space to accommodate the growing congregation. The current prayer area is reaching its capacity, particularly during peak times, and the extension of the prayer area is a necessary step to ensure that everyone has the space to perform their prayers in peace and comfort.

The extension will allow more members of the community to attend prayers and events at the mosque without feeling overcrowded. This expansion is part of the mosque's long-term vision to enhance the facilities and better serve the needs of the community.

Project Overview

The Extending the Prayer Area project involves:

• Expanding the prayer area by an additional 450 square meters.
• The area will be concreted (which has already been completed).
• A steel structure will be installed, and the space will be covered with Colorbond roofing, providing shelter from the elements and ensuring the space can be used year-round.

This extension will provide a comfortable, weather-protected environment for worshippers, expanding the mosque's capacity significantly.

• Construction cost $96,000 (inc. GST)

• Design & certification $8,000 (inc. GST)

• Concrete slab with drainage $45,000 (inc. GST)

Current Status

We have already completed the concreting of the area. The next steps involve receiving quotes for the construction of the steel structure and roofing. Currently, we have received one quote and are actively seeking two more quotes to proceed with the work.
