One Stop Funeral and Burial Services

Overview

At Gungahlin Mosque, we understand the importance of providing compassionate and dignified funeral services for the Muslim community. Our upcoming One Stop Funeral and Burial Services aims to offer a complete, respectful, and hassle-free process for the families of the deceased. Our goal is to support families during their time of need by handling the essential aspects of the Islamic funeral rites.

Our Services Will Include:

1. Body Wash (Ghusl) and Janazah Preparation
   We will ensure the body of the deceased is washed, shrouded, and prepared according to Islamic rituals (Ghusl).
   • Coordination with hospitals to perform Ghusl (body wash) on-site.
   • Provision of Ghusl facilities at Gungahlin Mosque for families preferring to perform this duty at the mosque.
2. Transportation
   We will arrange transportation for the deceased, including:
   • Collecting the body from the hospital or home.
   • Transporting the deceased to the mosque for the Janazah (funeral prayer).
   • Transporting the body from the mosque to the cemetery for burial.
3. Burial Plot and Process
   We will assist with securing a burial plot and the actual burial process.
   • Collaboration with local city councils to secure burial plots for the Muslim community.
   • Handling all paperwork and permits related to burial.
   • Ensuring adherence to Islamic burial practices at the cemetery.
4. Legal and Documentation Assistance
   We are working closely with local solicitors to provide support with legal documentation and paperwork, including:
   • Registration of death certificates.
   • Assistance with Will preparation and other relevant legal matters.

Current Status:

• Hospital Collaboration
  We have partnered with Calvary Hospital to arrange for Ghusl (body wash) services for the deceased at the hospital.
• Mosque Ghusl Facility
  Plans are underway to provide a dedicated Ghusl facility at Gungahlin Mosque to allow families to perform the washing of their loved ones in a private and respectful environment.
• Burial Plots
  We are actively consulting with the Queanbeyan and Yass City Councils to secure 200-500 burial plots for the Muslim community.
  • Several burial plots have already been reserved for immediate use.
• Legal Assistance
  We are in discussions with volunteer solicitors to streamline the process for legal documentation, ensuring that families can focus on their loved ones during these difficult times.

Additional Services We Are Considering:

• Grief Counselling
  We understand the emotional toll that the loss of a loved one can have on families. As part of our services, we plan to offer grief counselling and emotional support for families coping with their loss.
• Janazah Prayer Coordination
  We will offer support in coordinating the Janazah prayer, ensuring that the community is informed about the time and location of the prayer.
• Community Involvement and Volunteers
  We are planning to create a network of volunteers who can assist families in need with funeral preparations and the burial process, ensuring every family has the support they need.
• Memorial Services and Announcements
  We will assist families in organising memorial services, including arranging for announcements to the community and hosting post-funeral gatherings (if desired).
