Protecting Our Families and Values - by Imam Hatem Saad

First Khutbah
Summary of today's Khutbah

In this week’s Jumu‘ah khutbah, we reflected on the importance of protecting our families, modesty, and values while living in Australia. Our youth are growing up in a society where boundaries are often blurred, and it is our responsibility to guide them with wisdom, love, and clarity. Islam teaches us the concept of mahram, the importance of lowering the gaze, and maintaining respectful boundaries with others—not to restrict us, but to protect our hearts and relationships.

The khutbah also called for a return to simple, blessed marriages, highlighting the true meaning of mahr and the example of the Prophet ﷺ and his companions. Practical steps were shared for managing gatherings, workplace interactions, and raising children with strong Islamic identity. The message was clear: hold firmly to your values with confidence, support one another with kindness, and take small steps towards Allah—because real success is in preserving our faith and our families.
